d. carbone’s first album “carbone master system” is a collection of powerful techno tracks incorporating elements of rawness, acidity, and melancholy at the focus of his intent. bringing together the feeling and the passion that the sega master system brought to him in his youth. time was lost mesmerized by technology and excitement for the quest of the unknown.

for house heads of a certain persuasion, dj duke is a name that resonates for all the right reasons. the u.s. veteran has been responsible for some of the 90’s most seminal moments, chiefly through tracks such as 12 minutes to do it (under his pleasure dome alias), party time and the prosumer-endorsed deep house classic, heard. he returns here courtesy of emerging imprint solo werks, who host his latest ep, green pastures. a momentous house-led workout, it compounds duke’s reputation as a producer of considerable panache while also acting as an auspicious start to life for the dublin based label. the title track is a grainy, old-school cut that bears all the hallmarks of a dusty analogue-jam and harks back to the days of vintage chicago with the sort of zest you’d expect from a man of duke’s credentials. the other original, skyscapes, is packed to the brim with industrial motifs and is characterised by the sort of effortlessly catchy baseline with which duke has made his name. mysterious and ethereal, it takes the listener on an uncompromising and throughly captivating house journey from the off. on the flip side, we have two stunning remixes, the first of which arrives from new jersey don, ruben candelario aka nicuri. a long-time favourite of nyc-based producers a la joey anderson, nicuri turns green pastures into a dreamy, acid-led space, adding layers of suspense and a glittering vocal intto the mix as he goes. last but not least are dublin-based producers slowburn, who serve up a stunning version of skyscapes. a carefully construed voyage into the deep, it caps off a fine ep with some aplomb.

the third outing for modern manners emerges on the back of two very strong 12inches that introduced this anonymous outfit to the world. timeless vibe continues where the last release left off, building up a wonderfully cosmic bed of processed melody under which casual hand played percussion and warm bass notes can linger. azzahar too keeps things pleasantly soporific with its gentle pace and lilting guitar refrains, and then middle east manners rounds this excellent trio of eps out with a beautifully realised swirl of sounds that find focus once a kick drum starts pulsing and the percussion starts building. quite who modern manners are is a mystery at this stage, but across these three 12inches they ve certainly made their presence felt in the softest, most laid back of ways.

duat (pronounced do-aht) was the realm of the dead in ancient egyptian mythology. the deity osiris was believed to be the lord of the underworld since he personified rebirth and life after death, being the first mummy as depicted in the osiris myth.the underworld was also the residence of various other gods along with osiris. the duat was the region through which the sun god re traveled from west to east each night, and it was where he battled apep, who embodied the primordial chaos which the sun had to defeat in order to rise each morning and bring order back to the earth. it was also the place where peoples souls went after death for judgement, though that was not the full extent of the afterlife. burial chambers formed touching-points between the mundane world and the duat, and the akh, the effectiveness of the dead, could use tombs to travel back and forth from the duat. duat (or duatrecords) is a label by amin fallaha and r100.

irenic is back with the first release of it’s ‘special’-series, done by alex jansen. known for his releases and remixes on labels such as u-gold, stardub, rue de plaisance and more, this ep shows two different sides of alex. on the a-side, both tracks share a very emotional deep feeling, while the b-side is a bit brighter and more suitable for dancefloors.

dark entries is honored to release a 4-track ep by red axes, the prolific production duo of dori sadovnik and niv arzi from tel aviv. the pair were raised on a diet of post-punk, new-wave, and italo-disco at fogged out warehouse and basement parties. their own productions and remixes have appeared on labels such as i?m a clich?, correspondant, and hivern discs. ?nyx tape? features two new compositions backed with two edits from our catalog. first up is the slick electro anthem ?5 min? another collaboration with french-canadian born singer chlo? raunet aka c.a.r. followed by ?nyx tape? featuring charismatic singer-lyricist gina kikoine aka gina x, who reached out after hearing their remix of her classic single ?no gdm? that was a huge anthem on the tel aviv 80s underground scene. the track is an ecstatic dance to the rhythm in the darkness with gina?s ice cold teutonic spoken word taking creative inspiration from the jewish mourners? prayer ? the kaddish. on the b-side ?destination moon? by solid space from 1982 has been given a dancefloor makeover with moody synths and a haunting guitar line reminiscent of an adrian sherwood dub. closing this ep is a hypnotic edit of ?la machine ? r?ver? by french bedroom synth freaks x-ray pop from 1984 slowed down to a 4/4 groove that takes the original to outer space and back. all songs have been mastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the ep is housed in a custom made jacket that features an original collage by eloise leigh representing nyx, the greek goddess of the night. each copy included a postcard with notes and lyrics.

vault heist vol.1 contains two wicked acid infused techno tracks from the archives of vmax records. 1094t3 & 1194295t3 are early works constructed back in 1994 by heath brunner a.k.a silicon, h&s. the two-works contained on this release are layered with a steady pace of rhythms, acid synth lines, that blend together in ordered chaos not uncommon with brunner’s early works. if you are looking for some underground acid tech, this is the pure stuff so don’t miss out!

the superb forbidden planet is a shiny early electro cut with a great funk bass line, a real instrumental groove and fantastic melodies that shimmer like a hot sun. it s filled with joy and sounds as fresh today as ever, the way it ducks and dives and offers real warmth. the francisco remix keeps the funk vibe but changes the groove to be a more chicago house style cut. as such it has a rasping bassline, big drums and coarse percussion that make you want to jack. the masterful ali renault—a go-to disco and synth specialist who runs cyber dance records, human shield record company and most recently his own vivod imprint—then turns out a hypnotic version that is more driven and direct for the dance floor, with robotic bass and epic reflective synth lines. it s a cinematic track with great analogue textures that goes back to the future. the last original is the excellent stay with me , a cosmic love song with breezy trumpets and dreamy disco vibes as well as soulful vocals. italo melodies and infectious percussion finish it off and make it an instant crowd pleaser.
